Are you ready? The real secret to being rich? I mean really rich, not looking rich?
SPEND LESS THAN YOU EARN
That is all it takes. If you earn $20,000 per year, you can get rich. You just have to spend less than you earn. If you make $200,000 per year, you will never be rich if you spend more than $200,000 per year.
Spending a lot on credit cards will keep you from being rich if you do not have the money to pay them off in full. Going on a $10,000 vacation if you cannot afford it will not help you retire well. Skipping out on your 401k will ensure you have to worry later in life.
Who cares about what your friends and neighbors have? If you spend more than you earn, you will be stressed and never get rich. Do yourself a favor, save instead of spend. That way, being rich will just be a matter of time.
