Turning a Hobby into Income

by Eric on November 18, 2008

Are you a photographer? Are you an artist? Are you a gardener? Are you a collector? Are you an expert in something?

If you answered yes to those or an endless list of questions, you have a hobby that can make you money! A photographer can sell pictures. An artist can sell art. A gardener can sell at a farmers market. A collector can create an income with their hobby. An expert can teach a class.

I bet you deserve more credit than you give yourself already. Stop thinking, “I’m not very good”. Start thinking, “I am better than most people, and I can get paid.”

If you are an expert at rock climbing, for example, put an advertisement on Craig’s List that you will take small groups climbing. Charge a fee lower than the big rock clubs and you are in business.

If you are a coin collector, make a little extra cash on E-Bay for valuable duplicates. If you are an artist, find a local art show that you can join. If you make a crafts, find a craft show. If you make candy, find a place to sell it. You get the point.

It is the weekend. What better time to make money while having fun. That is why we want money in the first place, to be able to enjoy life. So, make cash on the side from something you like to do anyway. As Confusions said, or was erroneously attributed, “If you find a job you love, you will never work a day in your life.”
