Avoiding the Holiday Spending Hangover

Category: Spending – Eric – 9:00 am

It is getting close to the day after Thanksgiving, the official kickoff to the holiday spending season. As you get ready to spend lots of money, take a step back and think about what you are doing.

I have a whole lot of friends that would love to exchange gifts. I usually work with them to just exchange the gift of our friendship. Buying presents costs a lot of money. Add up $20 per gift over 10 friends or more. You can easily spend hundreds of dollars!

I do buy presents, but I limit them to my girlfriend and my immediate family.

Try to think of alternatives to buying presents. You can make a gift or have a dinner for your friends. Either way, it costs a heck of a lot less than buying everyone something. I know you may think you “have to” buy your friends gifts, but it is not really necessary.

Save yourself from high credit card bills in 2009. Make your presence your friends presents.
